ECD Students win Architecture Design Award!
On May 1st and 2nd students in the ECD pathway participated in the
33rd annual SRBX (Sacramento Builders Exchange) Design/Build shed
competition. 27 teams from the Sacramento came to the campus of
Cosumnes River College for the event.
As a second year team, the ECD team was still eligible for the rookie award, thus the strategy was to design a shed that could be 100% completed and still exemplify craftsmanship and present a more than basic challenge. A total of 30 ECD students were involved with the final product: the 12th grade Advanced Engineering students came up with a design and construction drawings based on the typical “red barn” structure by the end of the 1st semester, then the 11th grade construction technology class used most of the 3rd quarter analyzing the plans, forming teams, and practicing the build.
The day of the competition started on several high notes: good
weather, successful travel plans (we made it on time), and a special
visit at the site by a reporting crew from the Good Day Sacramento
The team did not win the rookie honors; instead they did themselves
several steps better by winning the Architecture Design Award! The
judging criterion was based on: Completeness of Plans, Conformity to
Design Criteria, and Creativity.
